Cartoon Saturday: Police Academy

Take a hit comedy movie...one with bouts of nudity and swearing...animate it...and what do you get: Police Academy the Cartoon.

Mahoney, Hooks, Callahan, Zed, Jones, and Captain Harris are all here. The wackiness and zaniness of our Police Academy heroes were no longer held prisoner by the silver screen. I could now plop down daily in front of my TV and see what kind of trouble Mahoney could get himself into today. Clown gangs. A gangsta rap opening. Robot cops. Oh, and did I mention they even added a professor? Amazing!!

And don't forget the wonderful products that resulted from this show.

Who wouldn't want a Police Academy-themed birthday party complete with party favors?

Need a get out of jail card, then flash this baby:

Or just live the dream of attending your own Police Academy.

But look, I could spend all day talking about the values and virtues of this show. I think you need to experience it for yourself:

Joe Friday: G.I. Joe #1

As a kid, I ate up the G.I. Joe comics. They were, in my young mind, "edgier" than the cartoon. I remember finding out that Stormshadow and Snake Eyes were blood brothers. Dear lord, that was some deep stuff!

Now IDW Publishing is releasing a new comic series. It's titled...get ready for it...G.I. Joe #1.

It's supposed to give us the origins of the bitter rivalry between those all-American Joes and those dastardly Cobras.

The cover art looks pretty darn good. And, as we all know, you ALWAYS judge a comic based on its cover!! Especially when Scarlett makes an appearance.

Oh, and thanks to YoJoe.com, I can truly relive the true G.I. Joe #1.

What's an Alien to Do?

So, you make it big in the movies by spouting drool and shredding human flesh. Now where do you go? Do you find some hulking abandoned space ship to retire in. Maybe you decide to make a go at legitimate theater. Or, quite possibly, you do this:

The previous video was brought to us by the folks at Kropserkel, a fabulous costume/props company. They do an amazing job making costumes for nerds like me.

This is a great way to dress to impress.

R.I.P. Bob May

Bob May 1939-2009

While he wasn't the voice, he was the man inside the suit. Thus, he truly was the ROBOT.

And while I wasn't around for the original airing of this sci-fi classic, I caught it the million times it ran in syndication. And, boy oh boy, I was hooked!!

M.A.S.K. vs. South Park

Found these on Matt-Trakker.com and immediately thought they were awesome.

Ecto Cool

What better way to show your pure devotion to busting ghosts than to quench your thirst with a little Ecto Cooler?

The supernatural neon green color made my head spin. And I believe the ingredients were as follows:
Lime
Neon
Sugar
Sugar
Sugar

Yes, it does look exactly like anti-freeze, but, dang it, Ecto Cooler was delicious. And while it had all the nutritional value of a bag of sugar mixed with a bag of M&Ms, Ecto Cooler was the perfect way to end a day of kick-ball and Sega playing.
And Slimer endorsed it for crying out loud. So you know it had to be good.

Sadly, Ecto Cooler has gone the way of the Dodo Bird. But I did find this helpful recipe:

So while it may not have the same kick as a true Ecto Cooler, all of the Absolut will soon make you not give a darn.

Oh, and I found the perfect product to get rid of that pesky neon green coat of color from your tongue:
